On December 12, 2000 the Living Seas received 5 juvenile green sea turtles from the North Carolina Aquarium in Roanoke Island. Four of these turtles were cold stunned and one was caught in a gill net. Once the turtles completed their rehabilitation, they were pit and flipper tagged prior to release. Two of the five turtles were fitted with satellite transmitters.
On May 22nd the turtles were released at Fort Matanzas – St. Johns County, FL . The location data shows that both turtles headed south approximately forty miles from the release site. The transmitters successfully provided location data for approximately three weeks. However, the quality of subsequent data transmissions indicated challenges with antennae design and/or placement.
